Have They All Gone Mad? We’re Living In A Hovel!

I want to introduce a concept to you. Imagine the country is your home. It is made up of the bricks and mortar, the roof, the inner walls and windows. It includes certain essential living items like a cooker, central heating, fridge, carpets, beds, furniture and within that we place our luxuries such as televisions, stereo system, food mixers, microwave, cutlery, glasses, wine, food, overseas holidays, new cars, dining out etc.

This is, of course, extremely simplified, but I just want you to consider a relatively simple analogy.

Final Considerations On Polling Day – Essential Matters

The first question you need to ask yourself if you planning not to vote or to vote NO is what sort of country in which you wish to live?

You can live in a country that gets governed by a government it votes for about a third of the time or a country which always gets the government for which it votes. Quite simple that one.

In my memory (I’m 66) Scotland has always been a country with a social conscience, wanting to look after the sick, the disabled, the underprivileged and protect the old and infirm. People in need have always been a priority among the majority of Scottish politicians of all parties. It seems to be in the Scottish nature. We all know that these principles are currently being undermined by a Westminster government which prefers to spend money on English high speed rail lines and Trident while it sends Scottish citizens to the food banks and imposes a bedroom tax on disabled people whose needs mean that they cannot sleep in the same room as their married partners.  The Scottish Government has mitigated this by stealing money from other parts of their Westminster hand-out to compensate those people so that they don’t have to have all the anxiety of moving away from their friends to a smaller property. In fact there are no smaller properties and so they just get the financial penalty.

You Really Have To Separate The Lies From The Truth

Let’s take them one at a time.

BANKS

Darling said, on national television today that all of the banks have said that they will move business south.

The truth is that NONE of them are moving jobs to England. They are considering the possibility of having to be registered in England instead of Scotland, but a registered office is nothing more than that, “A place where the business is registered.” RBOS actually said there would be no jobs moving south in an official letter. So was Darling lying? Yes he was and it is very scary and some people will believe the scare stories.

Project Fear

I felt I had to add Simon Jenkins of the Guardian’s statement here as it explains a lot and comes from the English perspective:

How would I vote? As a British citizen residing in London … . I would be shocked at how England’s rulers have incurred the loathing and distrust first of most of Ireland and then of half of Scotland. This incompetence reached its climax in the no campaign itself, the jeering, patronising, money-obsessed “project fear” designed to warn the Scots to stay close to nurse. The assumption that independence is all about cash is bad enough. Worse have been the expatriate celebrity endorsements – why have they all left home? – and scares that Scotland will lose its monarch, its missiles, its brains and the BBC, getting only poverty and terrorists in return.

What an interesting view from someone south of the border and it sums up all of the annoying threats from the No campaign. I do hope the undecided come to their senses and vote Yes on the 18th.

Why Voting “NO” Is As Negative As It Sounds. Think Of The Opportunities. Grasp The Chance Of Real Change.

There is no point me typing this if those of you of the same mind don’t forward the link to your “No” friends and acquaintances. You can even add your own comments to it although I’d appreciate it if you made it clear what you have added.

An Independent Scotland can decide how to use our wealth and resources to benefit us, our families and those who have generations to come.

This is what will happen if there is a vote in favour of independence:

David Cameron – Stop Trying To Win Points Thrashing Out at Putin. It Does You And The British People No Credit Whatsoever! NOT IN MY NAME, Cameron!

I cannot believe the reckless rhetoric coming out of Cameron’s mouth which now seems to be catching on in the rest of Europe. How dare David Cameron call for a deliberate penalising of individual Russians and their businesses and, thereby, our businesses which do business with them, on an unproven point of principle.

Let’s just go back to the United States of America shooting down Iran Flight 655 over the gulf. There was no apology from America and I don’t recall any sanctions being applied to Mr Reagan and his cohorts and friends in industry. Yet this wasn’t some rag, tag and bobtail group of separatists supported by the USA which murdered those 300 people in that airliner in 1988. It was the actual United States of America and its government and military which shot down that jet. They got away with it and gave a piddling $70 million dollars in compensation. No sanctions, no United Nations condemnation, not even any criticism from Britain or Europe that I can remember.
